THE IBON SURVEY AND GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO

The non-governmental think tank IBON Foundation is no stranger to controversy given how it’s perceived as a left-leaning institution.
But it is generally accepted that the methodology it employs for feeling the public pulse is scientifically sound.
Still its report that 7 in 10 Filipinos want Gloria Macapagal Arroyo out of Malacanang is being greeted with derision by Malacanang and GMA loyalists.
But IBON’s timing is impeccable:
it’s the 23rd anniversary of the People Power Revolution and just the other day some 17 military groups or personalities issued a manifesto in support of a one-star general who let an abortive putch against Mrs. Arroyo in November 2007.
So depending on the reader’s political persuasion, the IBON report could be seen as fodder for the above ground political opposition or casus beli for adventurists.
