How Is Lance Corporal Daniel Smith?

Interior Undersecretary Marius Corpus’ description of how American Lance Corporal Daniel Smith is doing some two years since a regional trial court found him guilty of raping a Filipina is totally expected.
But Mr. Corpus sounds like he specifically wants to assure the American public about Daniel’s state more than Filipinos who’ve been staging noisy protests outside the US Embassy.

I don’t want to read too much into the Filipino official’s assurances.
But if he is speaking for the government of the day he must realize that public amger is building up the longer that they perceive a disconnect between the that ‘fair treatment ‘ Smith is getting and the manner he is ‘serving’ the 40-year term handed down by a Philippine Court.
There even continues to be hair-splitting about the American’s status as a convicted rapist and his being referred to as ‘accused’ appellant.
To ordinary Filipinos, Daniel Smith did rape ‘Nicole’ and he should properly be in the custody of Philippine jail authorities.
No amount of legal gobbledygook can change this moral certainty.
