The Elections And Overheating PCOS Machines
This is a cautionary post.
Yet another vulnerability of those automated vote count machines surfaced over the weekend.
Reports say at least one of the precinct count optical machines (PCOS) “malfunctioned” during a field demonstration conducted by the COMELEC when the PCOS” overheated.”
Endemic among the state-owned National Power Corporation’s handicaps is the instability of electricity as high-voltage power is ‘processed’ at various substations (now part of the National Grid Corporation) for home use at 220 volts.
While COMELEC and Smartmatic have supplied each PCOS gear with standby batteries for outages, there are no surge protectors or voltage stabilizers.
With the Masbate experience, expect the COMELEC to receive midnight proposals for the emergency acquisitions of those power surge protector and voltage stabilizers that each go for several thousand pesos apiece.
Watch out.
