A Filipino Painter’s Prayer: Heal Our Land
As the week ends, i’d like to begin a special series that is far from political.
Over the next several weeks, every Friday, one of your midfielder’s posts will highlight a work by Joey Velasco fast-rising Filipino painter who began painting his thoughts, experiences, and passionately nattionalist and Christ-centered convictions using oil on canvas just in 2005.
Joey is best known for Hapag ng Pag-asa, his opus portraying Jesus at the Last Supper table not with his Apostles but with street children, real life waifs with poverty etched on their innocent young faces but filled with hope.
The Joey Velaasco below is titled Heal Our Land. Appropriate given not just because of the raging conflict in Mindanao but the deep wounds, economic, political, and social that mark Philippine society.
