The Inquirer Goes Tabloid-al

October 16, 2008

Here’s one for the Reader’s Advocate of one my daily reads, The Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The photograph of President Arroyo bears the innocent caption:

“PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announces the establishment of a standby fund for troubled financial institutions in Asia during Wednesday’s induction of officers of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines in Malacañang.”

But the image chosen among many that I an sure was taken during the occasion is this one showing the chief having to stand atop a riser so to be at proper height with the taller podium given her diminutive stature.

The PDI, of course, is well within its editorial prerogative to select the image.

But is there more to this selection that appears to call attention to Mrs. Arroyo’s height?

Your Midfielder is not a fan of the president given her public record. But shouldn’t we draw the line some where?
