What Is The Pacquiao-Dela Hoya Fight All About?

November 28, 2008

It’s a holiday-filled December for Filipinos starting with this long National Heroes Day break that extends to Monday, the 1st of December.

Then follows the December 7th money-match between new welterweight Manny ‘Ang Pambansang Kamao’ and Oscar ‘Golden Boy’ Dela Hoya.

This latest epic in the Philippines=Mexico boxing wars promises to draw millions upon millions of eyeballs worldwide.

Not since Pancho Villa and Gabriel ‘Flash’ Elorde has a pugilist like Pacquio generated almost boundless admiration from Filipinos, whatever their political stripes and economic stations.

Manny knows this only too well.

So when he climbs up the ring, the ‘Pac-Man’ will be all business in the truest sense of the word with the melody of the Abba song ‘Money, Money, Money’ playing in the heads of betters and sports aficianados.

Hey even the merciless murder of the impeachment complaint is seen by some as having been timelined to allow congressmen to fly off to Las Vegas in time to watch the Pacquiao-Dela Hoya duel.

But don’t fret.

You can bet top money that whoever wins on December 7, there will be the customary rewturn match.

After thatc second blockbuster, unless either of the two is roundly defeated  into retirement there will surely be a winner-take-all=the-glory third showdown.

One truly good thing that Philippine society gains from all the hoopla is on those three upcoming boxing-cum-business duelos political enmities will be set aside and Filipinos will all be united in rooting for Manny Pacquiao.
