GMA Risking ‘Irrelevance’ As Anti-VFA Moves Snowball

February 17, 2009

The uproar over Malacanang’s apparent mishandling of L’Affaire Daniel Smith is reaching a decibel level that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo can only choose to ignore at her administration’s peril.

Senators Enrile and Arroyo are known allies despite their attempts at projecting independence.

JPE’s installation as Senate President happened only by Malacanang’s leave, while ‘The Joker’ has seen publication estimation for him plummet given the disconnect between his words and actions the unending corruption issues buffeting GMA.

Despite this, the two gentlemen’s intonations about Daniel Smith and the VFA are, for a change, in cadence with the public pulse.

The younger Senator, ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan, is a small step ahead, however, with his resolution to abrogate the VFA while Senators Mar Roxas and Chiz Escudero, both putative candidates for president 15 months from now, are demanding immediate resolution of the Smith custodial issue.

The move is snowballing and if it happens that the Senate forces Malacanang hand, the earliest time a Notice of Termination of the VFA can be issued is one year before the agreement’s abrogation.;

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has a very, v ery big decision to mak e in the next two to three months or become irrelevant herself.

Expect GMA loyalists to mount a rear guard action.
