Heart-rending information from multiple sources  is reaching this writer that one of the three captives in Sulu has been hurt and hurt bad when shots were fired in the vicinity of Parang, Sulo.

With police and military troops tightening their noose on the group of Albader Parad, the three Red Cross workers have been literally dragged through the thick, mountainous terrain these past nearly three days and nights.

Their life-and-death trek as been made doubly arduous by the decision of authorities to shut down of electricity, and mobile communications.

Journalists in Jolo have earlier heard reports about the captives feeling terribly weak from exhaustion or of experiencing diarrhea due to the water they have been drinking.

Among the three, there has been particular concern over the health of the Swiss national and senior member of the Red Cross group, Andreas Notter.

The other male captive is Eugenio Vagni. an Italian, while Mary Jean Lacaba, an engineer by training, is Filipino.

There have been confusing reports about Parad himself being badly wounded. Several weeks ago a military sniper caught the Abu Sayyaf chieftain in his crosshairs.

In that incident, Parad was quick to deny having been seriously hurt except for a foot injury.

The last time he was seen was in the March 25 news video of ABS-CBN.

I AM STILL HOPING AGAINST HOPE THAT THE STORY ABOUT ONE OF THE CAPTIVES HAVING BEEN HURT TURNS OUT TO BE A FALSE ALARM.

Postscript: Arlyn Dela Cruz has just now told this writer:

Last proof of life through cell conversation was Monday night March 30, 2009…past 9 pm nang makausap ko si Mary

Jean.That was the last.

Over at Filipino Voics, co-contributor Patricio Mangubat has just posted this report:
