Farewell, And Thank You, JoCap (Press undersecretary Jose Capadocia)

We love life, we celebrate life.

Believing so, and with tragedies commonplace in a society like ours we often lull ourselves into thinking that the next one won’t hit us just yet or pray that it doesn’t.

But 8 hour ago it did.

I lost an old friend, Filipino journalists lost a grizzled yet mild-mannered Manong, Manong Jose ‘JoCap Capadocia.

He was USec to most of his hardworking colleagues in the Malacanang press office.

But while JoCap held high rank he was the go-to guy of Filipino newsmen in the Malacanang beat.

No JoCap didn’t chair those press briefings or distribute presidential largesse. But was always the source of accurate information, on or off the record.

And while GMA, with her voluble temper and all, her press undersecretary, JoCap, was still everyone’s friend, confidante even. He brought honor and respect to his office, and most of all, integrity.

I knew him from his days in the defense beat, and as senior reporter for Radio Mindanao Network.

When he moved over to Malacanang, our contacts became less frequent but no less meaningful.

He was still the old JoCap, warm and accommodating, though a wee bit busier with OPS information concerns.

To say that he will be sorely missed is an understatement.

He is irreplaceable.

To JoCap and the seven others who perished in the crash of that presidential advance team chopper, the Filipino nation owes a very big debt of gratitude.

Paalam sa inyo, paalam, at maraming maraming salamat.

Yes, Manong,joCap was a friend of long standing. We are all indeed on borrowed time and only The Maker knows how far we will go. Eash new day is a gift, a new chance to do good by our fellow man. Happy Easter, kaibigan.
