Of Automated Comfort Rooms And Faulty PCOS Machines

April 21, 2010

Former president Fidel V. Ramos has joined snowballing calls for a parallel manual count of the May 10 elections that are less than three weeks away.

Honest election advocates are pointing out that a manual count of votes for President, Vice President, and mayor would take six hours at most and will be effectively validate if the automated tallies from the precinct count optical scan machines have not been subjected to digital dagdag bawas.

FVR says the planned automated elections are no different from his offices state-of-the-art comfort room which even has a central automation control panel but “can be manualized” to make sure sure the faucets, urinals, and ‘poop’ seats work under normal human handling.

But levity aside, FVR’s apples-and-oranges presentation clearly argues that with the automated vote count system only randomly tested, the proposed parallel manual tally of votes is imperative.

We absolutely agree.
