The ‘Callus’ Of Makati?

May 5, 2010

Makati Mayor Jejomar ‘Jojo’ Binay should pinch himself and wake up to several realities:

  • While former president Erap is keeping up appearances and publicly cheering their tandem’s survey gains he has quietly signaled his people to begin distancing themselves from ‘Rabotito’ in the wake of the questions about his unexplained wealth.
  • Senator Noynoy Aquino has made clear that his conversation months ago with Binay about him possibly getting the DILG portfolio is no longer valid as Binay decided to seek the vice presidency. Aquino said the offer “no longer stands” because “I am no longer confident that the good mayor and I share a common vision. I want to make clear that my candidate and my one and only partner in this fight is (Sen. Manuel) Mar (Roxas II) because I am sure he will continue our plans,” he said.
  • Congressman TeddyBoy Locsin, once Jojo’s close ally, now considers Binay ‘ang kalyo ng Makati’ in reference to the widely known involvement of the Makati mayor in corrupt transactions. Locsin has even come out with a TV ad extolling the unblemished reputation and uprightness of Senator Mar Roxas in stark comparison to Binay:

Dalawang klase ang taong may kalyo. Isa ay manggagawa, nasa kamay ang kalyo. Ikalawa ay ang pulitikong nangungurakot, kalyo niya ay nasa konsyensya.

Si Mar Roxas walang kalyo ang konsyensya. Ipinaglaban niya ang karapatan nating mga Pilipino. Alam ko, pinaglaban namin ang Cheaper Medicine Act. Ang ating bise presidente, malinis, makatao. Wala nang iba (There are two types of people with calluses. One is the worker, with callouses on his hands. Second is the corrupt politician whose conscience is callused. Mar Roxas’s conscience has no callus. He fought for our rights. Togethe we fought for the passage of the Cheaper Medicine Act. Our Vice President is clean and pro-people. There is no one else).

It cannot get any clearer than this.
